Room 6
Teacher: Mrs. Anderson
Course Overview:
·
To develop inductive
and deductive reasoning skills.
·
To make and test conjectures
about mathematical and real-world patterns.
·
To investigate the
properties of the basic figures of geometry¾triangles, quadrilaterals and other
polygons.
·
To study congruence
and similarity by discovering the properties of reflections, translations,
rotations, glide reflections, and dilations.
·
To draw and measure
two and three-dimensional figures.
·
To apply algebra
skills to study parallel and perpendicular lines in the coordinate plane.
·
To develop problem
solving skills and applications using diagrams, tables or models.
*Each student will
be required to keep a math
journal in order to further develop mathematical skills and to apply their
knowledge of math to understand real-world problems. Also, each student is required
to keep all work in a binder. Binders
will be checked quarterly for neatness, completeness and organization.
*Homework is an important part of learning
mathematics and will be assigned daily. Every assigned problem should be tried
and the answer checked. It is
permissible to discuss problems with other students and relatives. It is not permissible to copy another
student’s work. Several lab assignments and long term projects will be assigned
throughout this course. Lab assignments are figured in as quiz grades and
long-term projects count are figured in as test grades. Late work will
not be accepted for any reason.
Have someone bring in your work for you when you are absent.
*Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will be given a zero
for the assignment or examination in addition to notification to the
parents and to the administration. This applies to those receiving
answers as well as those giving answers. Examples of cheating are using
a cheat sheet, copying someone else's paper, allowing someone to copy your
paper, talking during a test.
*Attendance is a significant part of your class
participation percentage. It is vital
to achieve the objectives of this course.
Extensive absences will significantly lower your grade. You must
bring in an excuse note from your parent on the day of return for
all absences. You are responsible for finding out what you have missed
while absent. If you know ahead of time
that you will be absent, you must get your work in advance in order to
receive credit. There will be no
makeup exams. If you are absent due to suspension, you are
entitled to the work missed, but you will not receive a grade
for any missed material.
*Tardiness will not be tolerated. Extensive tardiness will tremendously affect
your grade due to the fact that here is a daily timed assignment
at the start of class everyday. This assignment cannot be made up if you are
tardy, so you will receive a zero. Get to class on time.
*Progress reports will be sent out each marking period,
more if needed. My conference period is
during third hour. If you have any
questions about your child, feel free to call at that time.
*Tutoring will be offered after school on
Tuesdays from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. If you
are having trouble understanding any work, this is time to get extra help. Come
with specific questions and problems in hand. Do not wait until it is too
late to get help.
*Website is available for this course. It includes course information and
requirements, copies of forms, monthly calendars, homework assignment schedule,
problems of the week, helpful math links, etc.
This site is should be very helpful to you. It you do not have access at
home, other places to get access are the public library, computer class, a
friend’s computer, etc. My website address is: www.andersonmath.inspiringteachers.com
